American Professional Precision Bass RW Dark Night — Modern P Bass, Built for Working Players

The Fender American Professional Precision Bass RW Dark Night draws from more than seventy years of innovation, inspiration and evolution of the instrument that defined the electric bass guitar when Leo Fender launched it in 1951. This American-made 4-string pairs an alder body with a bolt-on maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard, finished in Dark Night polyurethane with a 3-ply black pickguard. The result is a bass with the punch, growl and authoritative low end that has made the P Bass a session and stage standard for decades.

What Sets This P Bass Apart

Two upgrades transform a familiar formula into a noticeably more playable instrument. The new V-Mod III split-coil Precision Bass pickup is more articulate than ever while delivering the punch and growl the P Bass is known for. The Modified 1963 "C" neck sports smooth rolled fingerboard edges, a "Super-Natural" satin urethane finish on the back and a newly sculpted neck heel, giving a supremely comfortable feel and easy access to the upper register.

Body, Neck & Fingerboard — Tonewoods That Define the P Bass Voice

Alder's balanced, even response is the foundation of the classic Fender bass sound, and the polyurethane finish protects the body. The bolt-on maple neck adds snap and clarity to every note, while the rosewood fingerboard adds warmth and a smooth feel under the fingers.

• Body Material: Alder — balanced, resonant tonewood with tight lows and clear mids
• Neck Material: Maple, Modified 1963 "C" profile — bolt-on construction for snap and clarity
• Fingerboard Material: Rosewood — white dot inlays, 20 narrow-tall frets
• Finish: Polyurethane body; "Super-Natural" satin urethane on the back of the neck with gloss urethane headstock face — durable on top, fast and comfortable where the hand rests

Pickup & Electronics — V-Mod III Punch With Modern Clarity

The V-Mod III Precision Bass split-coil pickup is the tonal heart of this instrument, delivering the punch and growl the P Bass is known for with more articulation than ever. Master Volume and Master Tone controls keep the signal path simple and intuitive, while ClassicGear Precision potentiometers deliver smooth, consistent control with custom torque, precise resistance and a musical taper.

• Pickup Configuration: S (single split-coil) — V-Mod III Precision Bass pickup in the classic P Bass position
• Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone — straightforward shaping of volume and high-end roll-off
• Potentiometers: ClassicGear Precision — smooth, consistent control

Hardware, Scale & Playability — Built for Stability and Sustain

A 34-inch scale length gives the American Professional Precision Bass its deep, fundamental-rich voice. The 4-saddle HiMass Pro bridge supports both string-through-body and top-load stringing and adds sustain, while lightweight vintage-style keys with tapered shafts keep tuning stable. A bone nut and 20 narrow-tall frets on a 9.5-inch fingerboard radius give a familiar player feel.

The Precision Bass Story — From 1951 to Today

When Leo Fender introduced the Precision Bass in 1951, he created the first mass-produced electric bass guitar and gave the instrument world a new standard for tone and playability. The P Bass quickly became the session instrument of choice, from the Wrecking Crew's Carol Kaye to Motown legend James Jamerson and his "Funk Machine". The American Professional Precision Bass carries that legacy forward with V-Mod III electronics, a sculpted neck heel and the HiMass Pro bridge.
