D'Addario J1012 1/2M D 1/2 Struna za violončela

Reliable Replacement D String for 1/2 Scale Student Cellos

The D'Addario Prelude Single D String is a replacement string built specifically for 1/2 size cellos, making it a practical choice when one string in a student set wears out before the others. It uses the same solid steel core construction as the full Prelude cello set, paired with a ball end fitted with solid blue silking for secure tailpiece installation. The string is engineered to produce a warm tone with strong bow response, helping younger players develop a clear, focused sound on their instrument. Because it shares the design DNA of the broader Prelude line, it benefits from the same damping process that gives the family its characteristic warmth and stability. This single D string is the right choice for student cellists, parents, and teachers who need a reliable replacement for a 1/2 size cello without buying a whole new set.

Who It's For

The D'Addario Prelude Single D String is aimed at student cellists playing 1/2 size instruments, typically in the early stages of formal cello study. It suits school orchestra programs, private lesson studios, and home practice setups where a single string has broken or worn out and a full set replacement is unnecessary. Medium tension gives developing players a comfortable feel under the bow without the heavier resistance of higher-tension options, supporting technique-building across both classical repertoire and contemporary styles. The solid steel core and ball end construction hold up to the inevitable bumps of student life, including frequent tuning, transport, and the occasional over-tightening. For teachers managing a studio of fractional-size cellos, this single string format offers a budget-friendly way to keep instruments playing-ready between full set changes.
